Let’s play a game, shall we? The name of the game is called “Imagine.” The way it’s played is simple: we’ll envision recent happenings in the news, but then change them up a bit. Instead of envisioning white people as the main actors in the scenes we’ll conjure - the ones who are driving the action - we’ll envision black folks or other people of color instead. The object of the game is to imagine the public reaction to the events or incidents, if the main actors were of color, rather than white. Whoever gains the most insight into the workings of race in America, at the end of the game, wins.
So let’s begin.
Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition.
Aretha Franklin’s soulful voice changed pop.

The Queen of Soul didn’t just want to be worshiped—she wanted hits—when she
pivoted away from pop toward gritty R&B and soul-stirring gospel, she got
them.

nice. or. evil.
the first thoughts that come to mind, just streaming thoughts at moment..
1) it would never happen - and I mean, never - because "they" wouldn't let it. but, who are the 'they?'
2) If it did happen, the police and other security measures, seriously, would've been 3x the size it was for actual "show-gunners!"
3) at least one of the attendees is getting shot and killed. at least one. let's face it, whether it was a 'trigger-happy white racist tea-bagger minute-man of VA" standing on the sidelines (most likely scenario), or one of the police (whether acting properly or not), or a "beef" two west coast/east coast homies, or just a total @#$%^ accident; somebody's dying that day.
4) last thought, a bit bizarre, perhaps (not that the entire exercize isn't bizarre in some way), but I can't help but the think of the NRA, one of the biggest (top 3 or 4?) lobbies (sp) in america, and for sure, one of the most organized, powerful and effective; nevermind how utterly clueless they are when it comes to what's good/bad for all americans...but I di-rest...er...digress. the point I was trying to make from what I thought I was thinking, is, that the NRA would get behind it moreso than they did the real one that took place (and I chose to let the details of this entire story to pass by; how much was the NRA actually involved, wrt sponsoring, or a statement, or a goddamned information booth set up in the middle of the rotting mess?; I didn't even see). "look, see america, we can all get along! see how inclusive we are!?" because that's their thing: even though a large majority of their members are racist (yes, I'm saying it), it's really about their power. The more members, the more power. They have no shame. It's truly despicable, the amount of american deaths the NRA is directly or "indirectly" responsible for each year, and almost impossible to believe the amount of power they wield, especially when you consider how easily they could be using their evil machine for good, and STILL be upholding our 2nd amendment rights! Fuck them.
