on my mind the last 24 hours...
Michael & Michael Have Issues - Best/Funniest new show on TV. Comedy Central, Wednesdays, 10:30PM. Watch.
I am truly looking forward to the day that George W. Bush, Cheney, Rush, Hannnity, Bill O'Reilley, G. Gordon Liddy, and Pope Ratzinger die. I still can't believe how much fucking damage and death they've inflicted the world with.
They make synthetic lattice in 10 different colors; why not redwood, to match my deck?
Obama needs to keep congress working on universal healthcare, however, he needs to drop the deadline crap. If he continues to tie his presidency to it, he won't win re-election, not to mention, the republicans and will get back a lot of seats in congress. America needs him for a full 8 years. Healthcare is a big, complex, bastardized, fucking mess, with the industry weighing in, corporate lobbyists corrupting the process at every goddamned turn, and we need to take our time with it, to make sure when it's implemented, it has teeth. The republicans gained tremendously, for years and years when the Clinton congress failed at gettign a bill to the Senate, even. We can't repeat that history. Work on it, but take a couple years if necessary. Dont' sell the farm Obama. Oh yeah, I'm all for taxing the fuck out of the rich (until I have lots of money), but that still won't be enough to pay for it. Wait a year or two and see if the economy gets back on track. It will be a much easier sell. If Bush's 8 year abortion never happened, we could implement it immediately, but he decided to not pay for Medicare, and pissed away trillions on bailouts, and an unnecessary war. Fucking asshole.
Latinas.
Speaking of...Is anyone gonna ask Judge Sotomayer what her view is on the women's right to choose, w/ regards to re-productive health and legal abortion? Or have they already and I missed it?
Fuck the Lakers, Fuck the Yankees.

Can right-wing hate talk lead to murder?

I've been wondering the same thing for years now, seeing as these mainstream media types speak to millions and millions every day, consistently preying upon those less-educated throughout our country (red-staters, rednecks, other reds, et all...). Well check out this video and corresponding article (click on title of this post for full article) - sj
Can right-wing hate talk lead to murder?
By Joan Walsh
Wed, June 10th, 2009
I was on "Hardball" today talking about the climate of extreme right-wing rhetoric today, and whether it had anything to do with Wednesday's tragic shooting at Washington's Holocaust Museum, or the May 31 murder of Dr. George Tiller by an antiabortion crackpot.
I tried to choose my words carefully. Unless it's shown that either man had accomplices, we have to be clear that the men responsible for those murders are the ones who pulled the trigger. Still, it's hard not to think about the extreme right-wing rhetoric, especially about Barack Obama, and whether it could conceivably lead to more right-wing violence. You can see whether I succeeded here (more text follows the video):

The range of crazy ideas about Obama is broad and wide: He's a secret Muslim, he's going to take our guns, he's even the anti-Christ! James von Brunn just happened to be a "birther," one of the nuts who believe that Obama wasn't born here, his birth certificate is fake, and he thus isn't eligible to be president. I thought it was strange and maybe a little ominous last summer when suddenly Obama was labeled a "socialist" and a "Marxist"; Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are arguably more liberal than Obama; why did he get tagged with that sinister, subversive, alien ideology? It seemed linked to the fact that he's just so … different from other politicians, so easy to marginalize and, frankly, demonize.

Why should mainstream media's (FOX, Rush, Inshannity, et all) abuse of the less-educated in America go unpunished?

"They're coming to take our guns away!"

truly great piece by Gary Kamiya, originally posted on Salon.com. sj
They're coming to take our guns away.
Cop killer Richard Poplawski is an extremist. But amid the deafening din of the right wing's anti-government rhetoric, how extreme is he?
By Gary Kamiya
Apr. 07, 2009
It would be convenient to pretend that Richard Poplawski, who killed three Pittsburgh policemen on Saturday with an AK-47, was just a right-wing nutcase. A devotee of the white supremacist Web site Stormfront, Poplawski believed that the United States was controlled by a secret Jewish cabal that had a master plan to abrogate freedom of speech and use the U.S. military to police Americans.
It would be easy for us to cordon Poplawski off, pretend that his ugly and paranoid worldview had nothing to do with the Obama hatred spouted by the American right. But the truth is that Poplawski's hateful views cannot be separated from the increasingly extreme ideology and rhetoric that characterize the contemporary American conservative movement. As his friend, Edward Perkovic, told the Associated Press, Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."
Such obsessions don't come out of a vacuum. Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and the GOP have been whipping up hatred and fear of Obama and "liberal Democrats" for years. Joined by the National Rifle Association, which has run false and irresponsible ads claiming that Obama is planning to take away Americans' guns, they have encouraged and helped to create a pathological right-wing subculture in which free-floating hatred of "the government" mixes with a maniacal fetish for guns. Poplawski is the diseased fruit of that ugly tree.

recession, christmas and crazy liberals
an email reply to a friend earlier....
Just so you know, we've BEEN in a recession for at LEAST a year (feels longer than that, no?). This isn't news to most Americans. The news that came out yesterday, was one of the more 'widely accepted' sources that actually proclaim recessions "official" (semantics really), finally did so, and stated yes, we have "been in recession since DEC, 2007."
As we know, Bush apologists (and I would submit others who aren't too bright and/or don't live and work in the real world) have just refused to admit as much, many doing what they always do by simply 'shooting the messenger': "ERP! crazy doom & gloom Liberals! Bleck!" or "..the crazy fringe left is at it again!" ...Rush "drug addict" Limbaugh and Sean "the Drunk" Hannity (as well as many other mainstram media types) make a career out of this nonsense!
Indeed, it appears the Bush administration (as well as the "free" market, wretched greedy-ness by america's biggest corpprations, and many other evil things) has left us a crippling mess for years to come, with the phrase "the great depression" becoming all too familiar in daily articles, analysis, and programs everywhere lately, when describing the size and scope of this fucking catastrophe most all Americans are in. By the way - and I've heard this mentioned lately, but have not heard a single supporter come out and defend it/themselves - just think if the republicans actually succeeded in privatizing social security a few years ago - GULP!!! You think electing Barack was a 'revolution?!' Sheeeet. We'd have witnessed a real revolution the likes America has NEVER seen! Maybe that dumb idea dies forever like "intelligent design" mercifully did.
ah well.... this is the type of crap and trouble a capitalist society breeds (when those at the top and in charge get criminal and evil-y greedy and empower themselves by deregulating themselves), which, by the way, I am whole-heartedly against now, if I wasn't before. Love democracy, mind you, but that capitalism thing, yo.... did I read today that two thirds of our entire economy is based on consumer spending? Was it always that way? Talk about a house of fucking cards!
...speaking of a capitialism (and getting trampled to death on Black Friday to save a couple bucks), "let's all start getting ready for Christmas! WOOHHoooooo!!!"
